Toolkit #2 - Patagonia's Vote Her Campaign Champions Electing Climate Leaders

Patagonia is one my favorite brands. Founder Yvon Chouinard’s memoir Let My People Go Surfing is an inspiring must-read for anyone that cares about business and the environment. It gives a detailed blueprint of how organizations can balance profit and purpose.

In simple terms, Patagonia is a rare brand that puts its money where its mouth is.

Patagonia has a long history of environmental activism. Perhaps most famously, it created ads that discouraged customers from buying their new jackets by highlighting the significant environmental impact of their production, from resource extraction to manufacturing and shipping.

More recently, though, Patagonia launched its Vote Her campaign calling on its community to take action against the climate crisis by voting for environmentally conscious candidates in the upcoming elections.

This campaign builds upon their previous initiative of closing stores for Vote Early Day, when Patagonia will give full-time and part-time U.S. employees a paid day off to not only vote but also to volunteer with the League of Conservation Voters.

This isn’t just a campaign but a call to action—again, very on-brand for Patagonia.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Mission: Elect leaders who prioritize clean water, air, public lands, and climate action.

  • Partner: League of Conservation Voters (LCV) - Provides voter information and volunteer opportunities.

  • Voter Turnout: Aims to increase voter participation at all levels (local, state, federal).

  • Employee Action: Paid day off for voting and volunteering with LCV on Vote Early Day (Oct. 29th).

  • Vote Her T-shirts: Limited re-release with a message of environmental urgency.

Why it matters: Patagonia believes electing climate-conscious leaders is crucial to protecting the planet. They encourage their community to participate and "vote for Mother Earth."

Join the movement: Patagonia offers resources and opportunities to get involved, including volunteering with LCV and wearing their Vote Her T-shirt which is available at patagonia.com and select Patagonia retail stores.
